International Day of Forests 2018

2018 Events around the world

To celebrate this year’s International Day of Forests, this event will gather eminent speakers presenting innovative ideas on urban farming, the integration of trees in buildings, wood construction and architecture, showing that technology and ingenuityhave no limits.

Project Extraordinary is an inaugural award competition to make sustainability sexy for consumers. The brief is to develop a concept for a short-form video that demonstrates an idea that makes sustainability so sexy it cannot be ignored any more. This initiative is a collaboration between WiLD Studios and WWF, supported by UN Environment.

Distinguished guests will discuss ‘difference’ from diverse perspectives and how engagement with the natural world, each other, and diverse spiritual traditions may bridge the divide. The evening’s guests include Duncan Murdoch, host of forest walks throughout the state with his organization, Nature Connection Guide, artist; and Steven Parker owner and manager of High Reach Farm, a diversified tree farm in Danville, VT.

WWF EARTH HOUR 2018
Mar 24 all-day

Soon it will be time again: On Saturday, March 24, 2018, the next EARTH HOUR will take place! Watch as the lights go off anywhere in the world between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm local time – as a sign of protecting our planet and calling for more climate protection.

For a nature-friendly energy transition :

The oceans are warming up, glaciers are retreating, the deserts are spreading: in order to prevent the worst effects of climate change, we must consume significantly less energy, switch to environmentally friendly renewable energies and protect the forests and oceans for climate regulation. Politics must create framework conditions, companies must save greenhouse gases, but every single one is now in demand!

Together we can promote a nature-friendly energy transition, actively influence climate policy and promote sustainable lifestyles.

Join in:

Largest climate protection action in the world!

The WWF EARTH HOUR is a simple idea that quickly became a global event: when the first time the EARTH HOUR was switched off in 2007, it only happened in one city: Sydney. Meanwhile, the number of participants is growing from year to year. In 2017, EARTH HOUR reached hundreds of millions of people in 187 countries and territories. More than 12,000 famous buildings have been darkened.

Global Catholic Climate Movement for Earth Day 2018
Apr 22 all-day

Pope Francis said “Bring the whole human family together . . . for we know that things can change.” (Laudato Si’, 13)

Celebrate creation during mass. After mass, encourage your diocese to shrink its carbon footprint by signing postcards together.

It’s surprising, but postcards really do work.

The diocese is a moral leader. It also coordinates activities in parishes that affect a lot of people. That’s why its commitment is so important.

On Earth Day we lift our voices as one.  We’re uniting in a big global effort to encourage dioceses to reduce their emissions.  Here’s how it works:

  • Celebrate creation during mass.  After mass, work together to write postcards to the diocese.
  • The postcards will encourage the diocese to put Catholic teaching into practice by reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.
  • The first step is to establish an office devoted to caring for creation.

Diocesan staff are invited to a webinar led by Vatican officials.

MARCH FOR SCIENCE 2018 Denmark
Apr 22 @ 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

MARCH FOR SCIENCE

  DENMARK

  APRIL 22, 2018

COPENHAGEN 2018

COME MARCH WITH US!

WHEN: Sunday, April 22nd, 2018, 1 pm – 4 pm.

WHERE: Starts at the Niels Bohr Institute by the entrance to Fælledparken, at the corner of Blegdamsvej & Frederik V’s Vej. Ends at Julius Thomsens Plads at the entrance to Forum, where there will be talks and entertainment.

WHAT: The March for Science is a celebration of science. It’s not about scientists or politicians, but about the very real role that science plays in our society, and the need to respect and encourage research that gives us insights into our world.

WHY: In the face of an alarming trend toward discrediting scientific consensus and restricting scientific discovery, we ask ourselves: Can we afford not to speak out in the defence of science?

SCIENCE MARCHES ON

In 2017, more than one million people around the world gathered together in the largest event for science advocacy in history.  On April 22, 2018, March for Science Denmark unites again to hold our elected and appointed officials responsible for enacting equitable evidence-based policies that serve all communities and science for the common good.

IT’S TIME WE HELD OUR POLITICAL LEADERS ACCOUNTABLE FOR SUPPORTING GOOD SCIENCE POLICY. IT’S TIME WE JOIN TOGETHER AND DEMAND THAT OUR LEADERS USE SCIENCE TO INFORM THEIR WORK AND CAST THEIR VOTES FOR SCIENCE.

We are scientists, science enthusiasts and concerned people of planet Earth. We come from all cultures, all religions, all gender identities, all sexual orientations, all abilities, all socioeconomic backgrounds, all political perspectives, and all nationalities. Our diversity is our greatest strength; a wealth of opinions, perspectives, and ideas is critical for the scientific process and social progress. What unites us is a love of science, reason and an insatiable curiosity for knowledge. We recognize that science is everywhere and affects everyone on the globe.

Science protects the health of our communities, the safety of our families, the education of our children, the foundation of our economy and jobs, and the future we all want to live in and preserve for coming generations.

CAMPAIGN NONVIOLENCE CONVERGENCE: MOMENT OF TRUTH @ The Festival Center
Sep 21 – Sep 22 all-day

CAMPAIGN NONVIOLENCE CONVERGENCE: MOMENT OF TRUTH

DATE: 9.21.2018 – 9.22.2018 September 21 – September 22
TIME: All Day
VENUE: The Festival Center
ADDRESS: 1640 Columbia Rd., NW
CITY: Washington, DC

MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Join us on Sept. 21, 2018, International Peace Day, for an evening of reflection on five years of Campaign Nonviolence and the next steps forward, with George Martin, Rev. John Dear,  Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Shane Claiborne, Dr. Ken Butigan & Dr. Kit Evans-Ford, and on Sat. Sept. 22, 2018, for a legal rally and a nonviolent silent march from the Martin Luther King, Jr. statue to the White House for a rally and nonviolent direct action.

Friday, Sept 21. 2018
Gather at 7:00 p.m. at The Festival Center1640 Columbia Rd., NW, Washington, D.C. for an evening featuring Campaign Nonviolence The centerpiece of this Week of Actions will be The Moment of Truth – The Campaign Nonviolence Convergence September 21-22 in Washington, DC.  On September 21, we will gather, reflect and prepare.  On September 22, we will assemble at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial, march to the White House, vigil, and take nonviolent action.

As we mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., we will march in the spirit of the prophetic declaration he made the night before he was killed: “The choice is no longer violence or nonviolence; it’s nonviolence or non-existence.”  In this moment of truth, we will call on the nation to choose a culture of nonviolence free from war, poverty, racism, and environmental destruction.

Now is the moment of truth for taking action – and for recommitting to the power of truth itself, in light of the many false or misleading statements made by the administration. On September 22, we will take action for peace, economic equality, racial justice and environmental healing – and for a new spirit of truth and nonviolence.

Speakers will include Lisa Sharon Harper, Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Jr, Kit Evans-Ford, Rev. Ray East, George Martin, Shane Claiborne, and Rev. John Dear.

Join us in Washington at this critical moment of truth.

From Peace Accelerators Description: It is our dream (and hopefully it will become your dream as well) that over the next decade we begin to celebrate the International Day of Peace (September 21st) more and more each year, until over time it becomes the first holiday that the entire world celebrates.

It is not religious and it is not about any made-up country — it is about all of us seeing the commonality between each other, realizing we’re on one Earth (and in many ways this place needs us to adapt to her quite quickly at this crucial point in history).

This Thursday we are holding a large beautiful inspiring event for the International Day of Peace. There will be community leaders, speakers, musicians, meditation, yoga, dj’s and much more.

This will be one evening you will not want to miss.

It will be the largest celebration for the International Day of Peace in NYC, the heartbeat city of our one planet.

Let’s show the world what we want.

Grandmothers To Grandmothers Campaign

The Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign exists to support the indomitable African grandmothers who are caring for the millions of children who have been orphaned by AIDS. Members of the Grandmothers Campaign share three goals. They work to:

  • Raise funds to meet the needs of African grandmothers and the children in their care;
  • Listen to African grandmothers, respect their expertise and amplify their voices, in order to promote authentic and substantive responses to the epidemic in Africa;
  • Build solidarity among African and Canadian grandmothers in order to motivate and sustain the vital work of turning the tide of AIDS in Africa.

Canadian grandmothers groups are tremendously active in their communities. They put on concerts, organize card tournaments, and sell jewellery. They visit countless schools and community organizations. They bake, cook, sew, knit, paint, write, organize cycle tours, walks, and even ride motorcycles – all to raise funds and awareness for grandmothers in sub-Saharan Africa through the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

To learn more about how you can get involved in the Campaign, write to Ilana here.

Articles About The Campaign

What started as a conversation around a kitchen table has grown to become a movement to empower women, especially grandmothers, in Africa.

The Grandmothers Campaign, an initiative of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, is known as Grandmothers 4 Grandmothers in Regina, which was among the very first places in Canada where women took on projects to support families in Africa.

‘We know the power of women’s organizing in Canada and older women have an extraordinary amount of vigour and energy.’– Ilana Landsberg-Lewis

As Ilana Landsberg-Lewis explains, the movement arose in response to the human crisis, observed by her father Stephen Lewis during his time as a special envoy for the United Nations, afflicting the African continent during the HIV and AIDS pandemic.

Millions of children were orphaned by the deaths of their parents. Their grandmothers were left to raise them, with little or no support.

Ilana Landsberg-Lewis

Ilana Landsberg-Lewis is co-founder, with her father Stephen Lewis, of the Stephen Lewis Foundation. One of their main campaigns supports grandmothers in Africa. (Lisa MacIntosh/Stephen Lewis Foundation)

“Grandmothers were just in an agony of loss,” Landsberg-Lewis said. “Death was everywhere. They were left with no income and often isolated by the terrible stigma surrounding HIV-AIDS.”

Landsberg-Lewis recalled how requests seeking aid referred to the grandmothers as “caregivers” and when she asked why, she learned there was a strong bias in play.

“Nobody wants to fund them because they’re older women and nobody sees them as a meaningful investment,” she learned.

“We decided if Canadian grandmothers knew what was happening on the [African] continent then it would surely resonate with them and boy did it ever,” Landsberg-Lewis said.

“I wish I could say that I was prescient but it would be overstating it,” she said, talking about how the success of the organization, which quickly grew from a handful of activists brain-storming at a kitchen table (her own) to over 250 chapters across the country.

Since 2006 they have raised about $25 million.

“It was really extraordinary but I can’t say that I’m surprised,” she said. “Older women in our communities, we know the power of women organizing in Canada and older women have an extraordinary amount of vigour and energy.”

******************************************************************************

The Campaign currently boasts more than 240 grandmothers groups across the country. Many of the groups have organized into regional and national networks in order to support each other’s efforts in solidarity with African grandmothers and the children in their care.

Resources from the Grandmothers Campaign go to grassroots organizations that support African grandmothers with food, health care, school fees and school uniforms for their grandchildren, income-generating programmes, counselling, social support, essential shelter, and other necessities. Throughout Africa, grassroots organizations run by and for grandmothers are sharing insights, deepening their expertise, collaborating with other local organizations, and building their capacity to turn the tide of AIDS at community level.

HONOR NATIVE LAND:  A GUIDE AND CALL TO ACKNOWLEDGMENT
Nov 17 @ 1:56 pm – 2:56 pm

 HONOR NATIVE LAND:
A GUIDE AND CALL TO ACKNOWLEDGMENT

IN COUNTRIES SUCH AS NEW ZEALAND, AUSTRALIA, CANADA, AND AMONG TRIBAL NATIONS IN THE U.S., it is commonplace, even policy, to open events and gatherings by acknowledging the traditional Indigenous inhabitants of that land. While some individuals and cultural and educational institutions in the United States have adopted this custom, the vast majority have not. Together, we can spark a movement to change that.

We call on all individuals and organizations to open public events and gatherings with acknowledgment of the traditional Native inhabitants of the land.

Acknowledgment is a simple, powerful way of showing respect and a step toward correcting the stories and practices that erase Indigenous people’s history and culture and toward inviting and honoring the truth. Imagine this practice widely adopted: imagine cultural venues, classrooms, conference settings, places of worship, sports stadiums, and town halls, acknowledging traditional lands. Millions would be exposed—many for the first time—to the names of the traditional Indigenous inhabitants of the lands they are on, inspiring them to ongoing awareness and action.

For more than five hundred years, Native communities across the Americas have demonstrated resilience and resistance in the face of violent efforts to separate them from their land, culture, and each other. They remain at the forefront of movements to protect Mother Earth and the life it sustains. Today, corporate greed and federal policy push agendas to extract wealth from the earth, degrading sacred land in blatant disregard of treaty rights. Acknowledgment is a critical public intervention, a necessary step toward honoring Native communities and enacting the much larger project of decolonization and reconciliation. Join us in adopting, calling for, and spreading this practice.

Download the Guide: Created in partnership with Native allies and organizations, the Guide offers context about the practice of acknowledgment, gives step-by-step instructions for how to begin wherever you are, and provides tips for moving beyond acknowledgment into action.

WHY INTRODUCE THE PRACTICE OF LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT?

  • Offer recognition and respect.
  • Counter the “doctrine of discovery” with the true story of the people who were already here.
  • Create a broader public awareness of the history that has led to this moment.
  • Begin to repair relationships with Native communities and with the land.
  • Support larger truth-telling and reconciliation efforts.
  • Remind people that colonization an ongoing process, with Native lands still occupied due to deceptive and broken treaties.
  • Take a cue from Indigenous protocol, opening up space with reverence and respect.
  • Inspire ongoing action and relationship.

Acknowledgment by itself is a small gesture. It becomes meaningful when coupled with authentic relationship and informed action. But this beginning can be an opening to greater public consciousness of Native sovereignty and cultural rights, a step toward equitable relationship and reconciliation.

OCTOBER 1-30, 2019

ABOUT

Beginning on October 1, 2019, Project Green Challenge (PGC) seeks to inform, inspire and mobilize high school, college, and grad school students globally. This powerful and diverse call to action features 30 days of environmentally–themed challenges. PGC aims to touch lives, shift mindsets, and equip students with knowledge, resources and mentorship to lead change on campuses and communities worldwide.

Through conscious living, informed consumption, and individual and collective action, PGC participants are challenged to envision and work toward a healthy, just, and thriving planet.

Since launching in 2011, PGC has built a movement of young leaders, engaging over 40,000 students directly and tens of millions indirectly on 4,000 campuses, 50 states and 56 countries.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Each day throughout the month of October, a uniquely themed challenge will be delivered to registered PGC participants by email at 6 am Pacific Time. Each challenge will be live for 24 hours inviting participants to complete actions and upload deliverables to acquire points and prizes. Deliverables include photos, videos, and text uploaded on the PGC site, as well as across TG social platforms; Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube. Twenty incredible prize packages will be awarded daily based on outstanding content.

WHO WE ARE

Turning Green (TG) is a student led global movement devoted to education and advocacy around environmentally sustainable and socially responsible choices for individuals, schools, and communities.

We operate under the belief that when students understand that they can directly affect small and large scale change, they are motivated to carry this sense of responsibility, purpose and stewardship for the rest of their lives.

Our hope is to engage youth in the transition from conventional to conscious living, empowering this generation and mobilizing action to sustain a healthy, just and thriving planet.

Turning Green is a global student-led movement devoted to cultivating a healthy, just and thriving planet through education and advocacy around environmentally sustainable and socially responsible choices. We inform, inspire, and mobilize a global network of students to become visionary catalysts for sustainable change in their lives, school campuses, and local communities.

WE ARE TURNING GREEN

to inform

We are young people with a passion to change the world. We speak our minds, and value ethics. We stand for environmentally sustainable and socially responsible choices, practices and communities. We assess our surroundings and investigate the impacts of what we do and think. And then we share solutions.

to inspire

We believe that a conscious mindset and thoughtful perspective are critical in today’s society. We remain aware of the effects of our actions on the earth and those around us. We choose wisely and lead with purpose and passion. We empower peers to grow our global voice because together we thrive.

to mobilize

We see individuals as catalysts for the change that our world needs at every level. We learn from innovation and living in the moment. We push for transparency, challenge injustice, and shake up systems that oppress, poison, or fail. No is not an option. Inspiration is everything.
We dream and do.

The Nature of Unity

Unity is a religious movement that began over a century ago. In the 1880’s Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, co-founders of Unity, began to work with some new ideas that they had found about life. Charles had a withered leg; Myrtle had tuberculosis. But in a short time, Myrtle was healed and Charles’ health was so much improved that other people, seeing the changes in them, were drawn to them to find out how they, too, could change.

The Fillmores had no thought of starting a new religion; they just wanted to help themselves and others who turned to them for help. In 1889 they began to publish a little magazine called Modern Thought, which a few years later they renamed Unity. In this magazine, they presented the ideas that had helped them heal themselves and find peace and strength. These ideas are simple. They are centered around two basic propositions:

One ~ God is Good.
Two ~ God is available, in fact, God is in you.

If God is good, God’s will is good. It is impossible to believe that a good God — a God who is love and intelligence — could have made you in any other way except to be healthy, happy, prosperous, loved and loving, courageous and strong. If you are not healthy and happy, it can only be because you have separated yourself from God in mind — the only place you can separate yourself from God and God’s good. You have only to reunite in mind with God, and your life is certain to be full and fulfilling. You do this best by getting still and realizing your oneness with God. Every thought, negative or positive, comes one at time to the door of your conscious mind; there you let it in or turn it away. To have a good life, you have to learn to say no to the negative thoughts which deny your oneness with god’s good and say yes to the positive thoughts which affirm your oneness with God’s good.

Perhaps this is an oversimplification of Unity teachings, but these are the essential elements.

Unity is not a proselytizing religion. We are happy to have you call yourself a Unity student and join a Unity group. But we are also happy when we can help you be a better Methodist, a better Catholic, a better whatever you are.

Unity began as an open-ended religion, and we pray it always will be. May we always be seekers after Truth rather than people who feel that they have found all the Truth and must form an exclusive little circle to preserve it.

Unity is the religion of the written word, and Unity School of Christianity is the organization that has carried that written word around the world. Unity has grown almost entirely because individuals who have been helped by its ideas have told others who need help about it. Unity has always been a warm and loving way of life, sensitive to people’s needs, God-centered but human-hearted. This is Unity.

and

Welcome to the Self-Study version of Living the New Story Series 2 !

Our live journey ran from September 2018 to April 2019 and each of the 8 videoconferencing sessions were recorded.

Throughout the eight sessions, we are inviting you to take an experiential journey into what needs to change in us, and in the human story. Each session will explore, at increasing levels of depth, what it is to live the new story personally, and accelerate it collectively, through:

  • Understanding our own personal journey inside of our larger, collective story of human evolution.

  • Awakening to ourselves as dynamic, inspired agents of change and learning how to powerfully cocreate the future of our world in a way that is uniquely ours.

  • Catalysing our growth and evolution beyond the patterns and core beliefs of our past to make way for the new story to unfold.

  • Honouring the best of the old story and integrating it into the new.

  • Connecting with, and beginning to harness, the power of the collective field to carry the new story forward.

As we change our story, we change our world

We humans find our way by story. Our stories shape us, hold us and give meaning to our lives. Every so often it becomes clear that a prevailing story is no longer serving. Now is such a time. Humanity needs a new, inspiring picture of the future to live into.

This website is designed to support the emergence of a coherent new story for humanity and the production of practical, collaborative ways to live this new story.

We invite you to help us accelerate our collective understanding of what the ‘world in waiting’ holds for us, what is already emerging and what needs to change, both in us and in the human story.

As a first step in this journey already begun by others, the Findhorn Foundation gifted to the world – The New Story Summit: Inspiring Pathways for our Planetary Future –which was held from 27 September to 3 October 2014…a gift economy gathering of the human family to experience planetary community, draw on our collective intelligence and co-create a story to inspire us all.

The Summit was more than full so we know there is huge support and longing for a new way to live together – a way which honours ancient wisdom and the interconnected whole living system of which we, the Earth and the cosmos are all part. It’s all connected and we are all accountable. To find out more, visit our Summit page.

This online hub will continue to be just that – a hub for people from all over the world to meet, engage, collaborate, share information, dream, synergise and inspire each other to live a new story.

If you would like to join this wave of collaborative action to shift consciousness and build on the threads of a new story already being lived and experimented with, you are very welcome. We invite your engagement, transparency, trust, compassion, innovation, entrepreneurship and generosity of spirit

PLACE Your Activities on the Peace Map!

We are in Peace Month (September) and the final countdown to the 37th annual International Day of Peace!

It is especially important to share your Peacebuilding activities on the universal Peace Map! You can add your activities for the world to see, and for people interested in joining you, by clicking here: https://internationaldayofpeace.org/event-map/

Peace Month is particularly significant this year as we honor the 20th Anniversary of The UN Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace, which is September 13th: A/RES/53/243 B Adopted by the United Nations in 1999, The Declaration and Programme of Action serves as a reminder of the importance of making Peace Day every day. The theme for the 20th Anniversary Observance is: “Empowering and Transforming Humanity.” And, we know that you are committed to doing that every day!

It’s not too late to place your activities on the Peace Map for the 20th Anniversary, as well as for what you will be doing for the International Day of Peace (Peace Day) on 21 September.
Please know this site is a long-established and universal website (www.internationaldayofpeace) that serves to inform and connect every one involved in Peace Day, beginning annually with the 100-day Countdown.
Please make the site your own and drop in frequently to see what’s happening to create a diverse and sustainable Culture of Peace throughout our precious and challenged planet.
Let us all create Peace Day every day!

Every two minutes a woman dies from complications in pregnancy or childbirth, and millions around the world are denied the choice of if and when they want to have children.

UNFPA Supplies supports over 20 million women and girls worldwide with family planning services, contraception, and vital maternal medicines, and since 2007 they have saved over 1.1 millions lives.

Without additional support, their vital work — and the safety of over 20 million women and girls — will be at risk. Call on world leaders to step up for women and girls by pledging new funds this year.

Thank you so much,

United Nations Climate Action Summit

The UN Secretary General is hosting a summit devoted to climate change, with the aim of calling the world’s attention to the urgent need to implement the Paris Agreement. The Paris pact has been agreed to by every country–only the United States has said it intends to leave it. But countries have not made policies to meet its goals. Of the 197 countries in the agreement, only seven are on track to keep warming below 2 degrees celsius, and only two are on track to keep warming below 1.5 degrees celsius. Science tells us that every fraction of a degree in warming means more hunger, more sickness, more conflict. The UN Secretary General’s summit is a chance for the people of the world to rally around real, ambitious policies to solve this crisis.

Think Kindness @ Your community
Sep 1 – Sep 30 all-day

THINK KINDNESS, WE CHARITY, COUNT ME IN CHAMPION KINDNESS WORLD WIDE

There’s a growing crisis among young people today. One-in-five students report being bullied, cyberbullying is on the rise, and teen suicide is at a record high. As these problems continue to worsen, many adults may be left scratching their heads. How do we stop this crisis and help our youth?

There are a lot of possible answers, but there’s one that I’d like to pose today that I think is too often overlooked: kindness.

Yes, the simple act of kindness – not just witnessing it, but participating in it – has the ability to change people’s lives for the better. To make our world safer and happier for our children, we need to be teaching them how to be kind at home, at school, and in their communities.

This may seem overly simple, but science backs it up. According to research from places like Harvard and UC Berkeley, among others, acts of kindness release chemicals in the brain, such as serotonin and oxytocin, which reduce depression and anger and boost overall happiness.

Being kind isn’t something we should just mention to our kids in passing – it should be an integral part of their daily activities.

As the founder of Think Kindness, I am blessed to have an incredible job. I go into schools all across the country and help kids tap into their inner kindness potential. In my ten years here, I’ve seen some amazing results. For instance, after my very first speech, a student who struggled with suicidal thoughts wrote me to tell me how getting involved in helping others radically changed his life for the better.

Luckily, Think Kindness isn’t the only organization that makes kindness its mission.

There’s a group called Count Me In, founded and led by youth, which helps to connect young people with volunteer opportunities in their communities and around the world. To date, the organization has inspired over 100 million volunteer hours. In addition, Count Me In has an annual leadership summit which serves as a bootcamp training kids how to be volunteers and do good in the world. I am also blessed to sit on the advisory board for such a powerful and meaningful organization.

Similarly, there’s an organization in Canada called the WE Charity which does incredible work to connect kids to acts of kindness. For instance, WE offers volunteer trips to impoverished communities around the world, giving young people a powerful chance to make a real difference for people in need.

They also host what they call We Days, which draw hundreds of thousands of children into stadiums across the world to hear nspirational messages about doing good around the world.

Organizations like these and others are essential to turning the tide of anger, depression, and sadness among our youth today.

But they need backup, because according to one study, youth volunteering has gone down over the last fifteen years. All of us – parents, teachers, community leaders – need to promote kindness to young people.

We can do it in two ways: first and foremost, by showing kindness ourselves; second, by connecting our kids to groups which can give them the tools they need to be conduits of kindness everywhere they go.

Let’s get to it – it just might change the world.

With Kindness,

Brian Williams

What Is World Day of Prayer?

Held annually on the second Thursday in September, World Day of Prayer unites Unity and draws in New Thought partner communities for a 24-hour period of prayer practice. In prayer, we dissolve our personal borders as we realize God within us, around us—an active source of life, love, and wisdom

Daily Word A Note from the Editor
Prayer is an excellent place to start no matter what you want to be, accomplish, or overcome. Teresa Burton

Prayer…an excellent  place to start…accomplish…overcome…

On September 12 Unity will celebrate World Day of Prayer where, for 24 hours, people at Unity Village and beyond will join together to celebrate the gift, power, and life-changing potential of affirmative prayer.World Day of Prayer is a special event for the entire Unity movement and also for me as I remember the ways that prayer helped me grow through one of my bleakest periods. At the nadir of my life—chronically ill and marginally employed and with a host of other problems—my prospects for improving my circumstances looked dim. The worst part was that I felt powerless.

I didn’t know what I was going to do to help myself. Maybe you’ve been there—no ideas, no options, nowhere to turn. I realized I had exhausted every option except for one. I knew in my heart it was time to surrender.

Like many unaccustomed to prayer, I came to it feeling desperate. Even though I felt exhausted, worried, scared, and humbled, prayer gave me comfort and hope and helped me feel less alone.

Over the next few months, I learned how to use affirmations, which helped me feel empowered. I then started to give thanks daily for blessings great and small and practiced forgiveness of myself and others along the way. Through it all I prayed.

That was almost 20 years ago. Looking back, what felt like the end turned out to be the best beginning I could have hoped for.

I’m sure discovering the power of prayer and learning how to use affirmations were the driving forces that led me to change my life. I didn’t stop there, of course. I took definite and concrete steps in the direction of my goals. I worked hard and dreamed big.

None of those worldly efforts would have gotten me far had it not been for the work I undertook to change my thinking, still my mind, and open my heart through prayer.

Of course, you don’t have to wait until your back is against the wall to pray (in fact, I recommend that you don’t!). But I do want you to know that prayer is an excellent place to start no matter what you want to be, accomplish, or overcome.

Twenty years ago, I changed my life through prayer. I discovered the power of thought and discovered that my thinking creates my experience of the world. I took regular time in the Silence and committed to a deep process of self-discovery, but I didn’t have to do it alone.

Being able to reach out to Silent Unity® for prayer support over the years has been a treasured part of my spiritual path. Throughout its 129-year history, Silent Unity has touched the hearts of people all over the world who have reached out for prayer for themselves and others.

I’ll be among the thousands of people in prayerful participation on World Day of Prayer on September 12, and I welcome you to join me as we share in knowing this affirmation: I celebrate the vast possibilities for my life.

The presence of God within you is infinite. Your potential is truly unlimited. Give yourself the gift of prayer.

Blessings,

Rev. Teresa Burton

Teresa Burton, Daily Word Editor

PS: You can watch World Day of Prayer live events on the Unity Facebook page, and join in collective prayer at our Silent Unity Virtual Prayer Vigil that day. And, as always, Silent Unity warmly welcomes your prayer requests.

World Day of Prayer 2019—Invitation

Guiding Prayer

Breathing in to prayer, I am in awe of the unbound spirit, the infinite presence within and around me. God is vitality in my breath, beauty in the natural world, strength in my determination, and compassion in my acts of service. I recognize God in the spaciousness of the universe as well as in my limitless dreams.

Let me set my sight beyond where I have seen before, into the vast reality of divine power and presence. Let me draw upon divine power and presence in order to fulfill my great potential.

In the harmony of prayer, my heart beats to the rhythm of God. The pulse of infinite life moves me, nourishes me, and empowers me to give life to my dreams.

How to Stop Plastic Pollution Forever @ Your community
Sep 12 @ 12:00 am

Story of Stuff Project

L

Help bring accountability to Big Plastic polluters by organizing a brand audit in your community! This massive, rolling citizen science project with the #breakfreefromplastic movement spans from San Francisco to Surabaya. It’s a great way to participate in the global movement working to end plastic pollution. Ready to take action with us?
What’s a brand audit? A brand audit is like a litter cleanup – but in addition to picking up trash from a beach, park, or other public area, participants record data about the products and materials that are ending up in the environment.
Your Brand Audit can be big or small: a solo activity, or a public event with lots of volunteers. Either way, you’ll be taking part in a global movement that transforming the conversation around plastic waste in the environment.
Get Started: Take the first step by signing up below! You’ll receive an email with your guide to hosting a brand audit, and a link to register your event with the #breakfreefromplastic movement.

Did you know that humans have produced more than 8.3 billion tons of plastic in the last 70 years(1) and 91% of which have not been recycled?(2)

This means that almost all of the plastics ever produced are in a landfill, have been incinerated, or somewhere else in our environment causing destructive impacts to the Earth’s ecosystem.

The fossil fuel industry plans to increase plastic production by over 40% in the next decade(3) which means there will be more plastic than ever before.

Recycling and cleanups alone won’t solve the massive scale of the plastic crisis.

Think about it, if your bathtub was overflowing, you wouldn’t immediately reach for a mop — you’d first turn off the tap. That’s what we need to do with single-use plastics.

Watch this video and learn how we can turn the tide and put an end to plastic pollution.

Please share this video on FacebookTwitter, or pass this email along.

We have the power to solve the plastic crisis before it’s too late.

Thank you for watching,

Jericho Apo
Digital Strategist
P.S. If you’d like to get involved and take action, sign up here to host or join a Brand Audit!

Inspired by an ancient Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the Earth Treasure Vase Global Healing Project brings healing and protection to the Earth by filling consecrated clay vessels with prayers and offerings, and ceremonially burying them in the Earth in collaboration with indigenous elders, young activists and grassroots leaders in places where healing and protection are most needed around the planet.

The project began in 1990, when Cynthia met a 106 year-old lama living in a cave in the Himalayas and asked him, What can we do to bring healing and protection to the Earth? He gave her this practice and since then, 49 Earth Treasure Vases have been planted (5 of these are in process now) in sacred places, war torn communities, mountains, forests and sources of rivers on every inhabited continent. The vases form a living global mandala of prayers and intentions for the healing of the Earth. With 21 vases still to go, the practice continues with pilgrimages to many new locations. On every full moon we gather for a guided meditation to direct our prayers and intentions into the vases and energize the global mandala, embracing Gaia with our heartfelt presence and sacred offerings.

This month will be the dawn of a new era in the climate movement. With glaciers melting at unprecedented rates and fires burning across the Amazon, young people are going all out to fight for our future and our elders are rising in solidarity with us.

On Wednesday, September 18, my Juliana v. United States co-plaintiffs and I will come together with Swedish climate activist, Greta Thunberg, at a press conference in Washington D.C. We will call on world leaders to recognize the fierce urgency of climate change, and to put in place science-based climate recovery plans around the world. Tune in to the Facebook livestream of this historic union of major youth leaders.

Sign up for a reminder to tune in to the September 18 press conference featuring the Juliana plaintiffs and Greta Thunberg.

AND THEN – DON’T FORGET;

On Friday, September 20, young people, workers, activists, politicians and many more will strike to demand immediate climate action in what will likely be the largest climate mobilization ever. We will strike to demand transformative action to address the climate crisis. Building on the recent surge of the youth climate movement, adults will join us to send a clear, intergenerational message to governments that they must act decisively in the face of climate chaos.

Join my co-plaintiffs and me at strikes across the country, from New York City to Alaska, to show solidarity with the broader youth climate movement and demand our day in court.

Grateful for all you do to support the brave young people in this movement.

Thank you for rising with us,
Xiuhtezcatl Martinez

IF YOU’RE A LEGISLATOR AND READY TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT, GO HERE.

While we wait for the decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, we must call on Members of Congress to publicly support Juliana v. United States and the constitutional rights of young people to life, liberty, and property free from government endangerment. We have been calling on the judicial branch to help hold the executive branch of our federal government accountable for its role in causing the climate crisis, and we need the legislative branch to step up as well.

Let’s make this happen.

~ Vic Barrett, Juliana v. United States plaintiff

Remember to do all three – tweet and email and call

The United States government has known about the causes and dangers of climate change for more than half a century. Yet it continues to promote and protect the major driver of the climate crisis: our national fossil fuel energy system. These actions of the executive branch have endangered young Americans. This is unjust and unconstitutional. That’s why the 21 young plaintiffs in Juliana v. United States are suing the federal government. We need Congress to support them and their fundamental constitutional rights to life, liberty, and property free from government endangerment in its role in causing climate chaos.

World Peace Card Meditations
Wednesday, September 18, 7:30pm

(based on local time in your time zone)

International Center for Reiki Training <reiki@reiki.org

You are invited to take part in the next World Peace Card Meditation. Please mark your calendar and forward this email to all your friends.

Thanks for Your Help!

Because so many of you forwarded this email to your friends, there have been almost 396,800 downloads of the World Peace Cards. This is a tremendous increase in the number of people using the cards. So far the total number of World Peace Card sets downloaded, received from our free offer and from our magazine has been nearly 440,000! I hope you have been using your peace cards as their use brings blessings to the world as well as to you.

The next World Peace Card group meditation have been scheduled for Wednesday, September 18 at 7:30pm. This is local time in your time zone. This method has been chosen because of the special effect it produces. As people meditate in each successive time zone the energy builds like a wave which gets stronger and stronger as it circles the planet. Because of the higher dimensional nature of consciousness, the energy of peace will be transmitted for a full 24 hours and continue long after this.

Reports from those who took part in the previous meditations indicate many had powerful spiritual experiences. As they united with those taking part in the meditation a feeling of peace developed within that stayed with each for a long time. Some saw beautiful golden light surrounding the planet and others felt that a web of fear was dissipating and being replaced with trust in others and for our future. All those who have received the cards are being asked to meditate on world peace at this time. By taking part in this group meditation, you’ll be joining thousands of people who will be using the cards to bring peace to the world. By joining together, the affect we have will be greatly multiplied. This powerful experience and will help shift the vibration of our wonderful planet into a higher state of consciousness. As you use the cards to meditate on world peace, you will be a beacon through which peace will spread around the planet which will have a positive uplifting effect on all people. Please set aside this time to meditate with the cards. The suggested meditation period is 15 minutes, but of course you can meditate longer if you’d like to. The technique I’d like you to use is based on allowing yourself to be a beacon of peace. The World Peace Cards hold the vibration of the World Peace Grids which have been placed at spiritually significant locations and are relay stations for higher consciousness. By simply opening to their energy, you’ll become a channel for their love and peace which will flow through you to all the people on Earth. To do this, hold the cards in your hands or place them in front of you. Then simply meditate on peace. We are entering a new era. Our entire planet including all the people and living things are moving into a place where it will be much easier to solve our problems and to create peace, prosperity and happiness for everyone. The World Peace Card meditation will quicken this process, making it easier for people to experience this new quality of higher consciousness and will provide great benefit for all people. Since this benefit will be flowing through you out to everyone on the planet, you’ll be blessed by this experience as well. Many have received the cards in the mail or in the Reiki News Magazine while others have downloaded them from our web site. If you would like additional copies of the cards, please download them using this link and print as many copies as you can use. Please feel free to give them to your friends. Also, forward this email to anyone you feel would like to take part in the meditation.

New Reiki Grid – Send Reiki to Others

We also have a new image of the World Peace Crystal Grid that can be used for a Reiki Grid. By using it for your Reiki Grid you’ll be tapping into the energy of all the peace grids and this will add to the energy that is sent to all those whose names or photos you place in the grid making the Reiki more effective and adding wonderful feelings of peace and harmony. And each time you charge your grid, you’ll be charging the peace grids for world peace! With this system you’ll use 12 crystals around the outside – placing 1 crystal over each of the crystals in the photo plus 1 crystal in the center and 1 as your master crystal for a total of 14 crystals. The additional crystals will also hold and transmit more energy. Also, remember you can place your goals into the grid as well. I suggest printing it on glossy photo paper if you have it or you could get some at your office supply store. You’ll need to trim the one side of the grid after it’s printed. https://www.reiki.org/Download/NPGridLetterSizeRGB.pdf

CLIMATE STRIKE SEPTEMBER 20 2019 @ Near YOU!
Sep 20 all-day

WE, THE FUTURE GENERATION, ASK YOU TO CHOOSE US

On September 20, three days before the UN Climate Summit in NYC, young people and adults will strike all across the US and world to demand transformative action be taken to address the climate crisis. Millions of us will take the streets to demand a right to a future, and we’re inviting you to

#strikewithus

Find a strike near you to attend on September 20. If you don’t find an event in your area, organize one! We’ll provide everything you need to get started in planning something in your community so no experience is necessary.

Whether you’re 7 or 77, you’re invited to join the movement.

*************************

From Bill McKibben:

Dear Friends,

“Last week I ended up in jail for a little while, because I’d sat down in a Congress member’s office to protest the deadly confluence of climate and immigration policy. You can read about my day in the New Yorker1 story shared on the bottom of this email, but my point in sharing it with you is not to say that I acted nobly or that it was a big deal.

Instead, my point is simply that sometimes you have to act even if you’re not entirely sure what the effect will be. We’re coming up on the next great moment in the climate movement, the global all-ages climate strike on Sept. 20. Years of sustained resistance from Standing Rock to the school strikes and beyond, particularly from youth of color, have led us to this moment. So let’s make the most of it.

We’re now just one month away from the Global Climate Strike. Join your community members, coworkers, and children in the streets at an event near you, or host one yourself.

Whatever you do that day — whether you walk out of work or school, close down your business, or join a protest, it will help build the groundswell that is now clearly rising.

When you strike, you’ll be striking for justice above all — it’s one thing you can do on behalf of those who are incarcerated at the border, or who are living so close to the margin that taking a day off is not possible. If you have some flexibility in your life, it’s time to put it to work. If you don’t, sign up anyway, we’ll find other ways for you to participate and show your support.

The UN’s best guess is that unchecked climate change could produce a billion climate refugees this century. Think about that for a moment — a billion people whose lives would be utterly, permanently, devastatingly upended. Then think about whether you can take a day to do something real about it, even without knowing exactly what change it will produce.

It’s time for all of us who can to take action for a more just and sustainable world. Join the Global Climate Strike starting on September 20th and fight with me for the future we all deserve.

Together we build movements, and when those movements get big enough they change history. You change history. Thank you for being a big part of it –

Let’s make change, “

Bill McKibben

ABOUT

With the consequences of climate change becoming ever more clear and dire with each passing day, a new powerful wave of the climate movement has been swelling up over the last couple of years. Young people around the world have been rising up to defend our future, and have been going on strike – every week, all over the planet – for months. On September 20, for the first time, the adults are joining us.

We, as a global society, are at a crossroads. We have a decision to make. Are we going to choose money or power or are we going to choose the future? The September 20 strike is an invitation to everyone to choose us. Choose the kids, choose humanity, choose the future.

Led by a diverse coalition of youth-led and adult-led organizations,

September 20 is an intergenerational day of striking

that will launch an entire week of climate action across the world.

September 20 is only the beginning. We must carry this energy to the 2020 elections, and beyond to ensure real, bold action is taken to address the climate crises. This is history in the making, and it’s time we take back the narrative to save our futures.

The demands set forth by the youth coalition will be released soon.

Connections between peace, climate protection, SDGs and disarmament

UN Charter (Article 26) recognises the connection between disarmament and sustainable development. Article 26 requires the UN to facilitate disarmament ‘in order to promote the establishment and maintenance of international peace and security with the least diversion for armaments of the world’s human and economic resources.’

More recently the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development recognizes that there can be no sustainable development without peace, and no peace without sustainable development. In addition, Securing our Common Future: An Agenda for Disarmament, the disarmament agenda released in 2018 by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, outlines the links between disarmament and many of the SDGs.

Key events and actions:

Sep 21: International Day for Peace

  • UN event: International Day of Peace Student Observance, United Nations, 20 September 2019. Watch it on webtv.un.org

Climate Action Summit 2019

The Secretary-General will convene a Climate Action Summit in September 2019 to bring climate action to the top of the international agenda. Mr. Luis Alfonso de Alba, a former Mexican diplomat, will be his Special Envoy to lead its preparations.

The Summit will focus on the heart of the problem – the sectors that create the most emissions and the areas where building resilience could make the biggest difference – as well as provide leaders and partners the opportunity to demonstrate real climate action and showcase their ambition.

MOMM – Moments of Mass Mindfulness @ Social Media
Sep 21 all-day

21919.png

The Global Consciousness Project is an international, multidisciplinary collaboration of scientists and engineers, who collect data continuously from a global network of physical random number generators located in up to 70 host  sites around the world at any given time.
.
The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution 36/37, the General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”

Join us to create a wave of peace

as you hold your Moments of Mass Mindfulness

at midday across the world in your local time zones

for International Peace Day.

Register for World Peace Day.

.MOMM is thrilled to be part of the Peace Coalition network of Peace One Day and a global partner of Pace e Bene’s Campaign

Moments of Mass Mindfulness (MOMM) is a meditation movement for everyone. We are raising awareness of, and co-creating in community, a model that fully embraces the true definition of health as both an Art and a Science. At the heart of it all, we’re focused on building community, connection, collaboration and to enhance personal wellbeing.

Imagine if mindfulness and meditation was a regular part of daily life in society. If every person was able to slow down, and connect with their calmer, essential self and find balance, it’s likely feelings of negative self-talk and aggression would disappear. Mindfulness is a strategy for directing yourself away from these self-incriminating thoughts and limiting beliefs. It’s a meditative practice of paying attention to your body, mind, and surroundings in a non-judgmental manner.

Mindfulness can be thought of as a form of self-care. Science has proven (1) that it’s a valuable antidote to the fast pace of our now technology-driven culture, and mind body techniques, when used effectively, can influence our brain activity and lead to a reduction in stress, mood and anxiety.

Mindfulness and meditation is recommended as a treatment for people with mental ill-health – (1) It is recommended by NICE as a preventative practice for people with experience of recurrent depression (2)), as well as those who want to improve their mental health and wellbeing (3). There are numerous studies showing compelling support for Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), which helps people to cope with stress, and for Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), which is designed to help people with recurring depression. There has become little doubt that its use is an effective intervention and prevention technique.

The importance of mental health both to human wellbeing and the prosperity of the country has been well established in a number of recent reports (including the report of the Wellbeing Economics APPG published last year), and it has prompted the government’s initiative to set up the What Works Centre for Wellbeing in 2015, hosted by Public Health England (4).

Conversations and collaborations are springing up through a new paradigm of self care and lifestyle medicine, which combine objective knowledge and subjective experiential practices. These practices, towards balance and coherence, energise and rejuvenate both mind and body. Meditation, mindfulness, indeed all contemplative practices serve to calm the nervous system, activating the body’s own natural healing system, our ‘inner pharmacy’ aided by health-improving behaviours of better nutrition, exercise, stress reduction and a good night’s sleep. This combination of the health sciences from both modern day and traditional care, will help fulfil the potential future of vibrant health and well-being.

Let’s come together with open minds, open hearts and pure intention.

2019 Electoral Toolkit: Make Your Voice Heard On Youth Justice – NO KIDS IN PRISON @ Your community
Sep 24 all-day

In order to actualize real, lasting reforms to our juvenile justice system

on a national level,

we need your help making a difference on the local and state level.

Governors, state legislators, county commissioners, district attorneys, and mayors all make decisions that shape communities, including what investments our tax dollars fund. Down-ballot candidates for these policy-making positions have the ability to shift resources away from youth incarceration and into community alternatives for our young people.

It’s critical that we build relationships

with candidates throughout their campaigns

to ensure that any person running for office

knows that youth justice

is a priority in your community.

They need to hear from you and other voices

in the community who care about youth justice

from now through Election Day and beyond.

We’ve updated our Electoral Toolkit for 2019 to provide you with updated resources, including social media graphics, to mobilize your community to engage local candidates in an effort to end youth incarceration and direct resources to community alternatives. Those seeking political power in local and state elected positions must understand the issues facing youth involved in the juvenile justice system, talk about their positions publicly, and stand ready to

work with young people and families if elected.

Your participation helps educate candidates about youth incarceration and what is at stake, so that we can create local systems that promote safer communities and a more just system for our children. Candidates also need to know that we are an engaged community that will hold them accountable through our vote and our activism, even once they’re in office, through activities such as

voter registration drives, community events, and forums.

Please join our movement by downloading our toolkit to learn what you can do in your community and share this with all your friends and colleagues in your own network. You can also share this toolkit on your social media pages using the graphics here.

We look forward to joining together with you in this fight.

Thank you,

The Youth First Team

Ohio SB 33 makes it a felony to dissent and threatens our constitutional rights to freedom of speech and assembly. Ohio SB 33 was written by industry lobbyists and is heavily influenced by corporate campaign contributions and dark money. SB 33 is an example of the Distorted Moral Narrative Dr. Barber has warned us about.

This bill has been traced back to the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and the Council of State Governments (CSG), both of which receive generous funding from the oil and gas industry. They want to discourage and stifle protests at all oil and gas pipeline and production sites and stop protests like that at Standing Rock in North Dakota.

Under SB 33, it could become a felony for peaceful demonstrators to be present at an event where someone else breaks a law. And creates financial penalties for supporting organizations so extreme they will bankrupt any non-profit or congregation that opposes industrial ecological devastation. It also punishes groups who provide legal aid to those accused under this law.

REGISTER HERE: or at: https://forms.gle/9MndaymopD7ELipH6

The Public Utilities Committee will decide on this bill. We need to speak with as many of them as possible. We will ask people to join a small team to meet with the Utility Committee Members as well as their own legislators.

We urge you to make your voice heard in the halls of the Statehouse.
If we are silent, the only voices that our legislators will hear will be those of the gas and oil lobbyists.
Together we can drown out the noise of those whose loyalty is to greed, pollution, and repression of dissent.
Together we will show our unity.
Together we will present our legislators with a clear vision of the Ohio we want for all citizens, now and into the future.
Please share this widely.

Forward Together. Not One Step Back.

*************************************************************************************************

On Thursday, September 26Creative Community For Peace (CCFP) will hold its second annual “Celebrating Ambassadors Of Peace” (AOP) event at the Holmby Hills home of noted entertainment attorney and CCFP Advisory Board member, Gary Stiffelman, Esq. (whose clients have included Justin Timberlake, Eminem, Yo-Yo Ma, Trent Reznor, Maroon 5).

In 2018, CCFP honored Scooter Braun, Geffen Records President Neil Jacobson and Warner Music Group executive Aton Ben-Horin. This year’s honorees are: Aaron Bay-Schuck (CEO/Co-Chairman Warner Records); Jacqueline Saturn (President, Caroline Music/CMG); Troy Carter (Founder of Q&A and Atom Factory); Walter Kolm (former President of Universal Music Latino and now manages Maluma, Carlos Vives, and Wisin amongst others); and special artist honoree, Ziggy Marley (GRAMMY Award-winning artist).

The honorees were chosen for their commitment to championing artistic freedom and advancing the idea that music and the arts are a powerful force for building cultural bridges. Through their work and influence, they have advanced coexistence to create a better future for all.

As stated by CCFP Co-Founder David Renzer, and Director Ari Ingel, “Creative Community for Peace was founded by entertainment industry executives on the principal that music and the arts can be a unifying force to bring people of different backgrounds together. We also believe that a cultural boycott of Israel does not further the prospects for peace.”

The honorees shared their excitement to be recognized as Ambassadors of Peace and the importance of CCFP’s work, stating the following:

Aaron Bay-Schuck: “I am honored to be recognized as an ‘Ambassador of Peace’ by Creative Community for Peace and humbled to be receiving it alongside such accomplished industry executives and friends. The cultural boycott movement is detrimental to prospects for peace between Israelis and Palestinians, as well as to artistic freedom around the world, and I will continue to stand with my friends and colleagues who are dedicated to using music and the arts to bring people together.”

Jacqueline Saturn: “I’m honored to receive the Ambassadors of Peace award from Creative Community for Peace. Music and all creative art forms have the unique ability to pierce through cultural barriers, reshape perspectives, and create common ground. CCFP bridges divergent communities, enabling them to find a common voice. Now more than ever, the creative community must take a courageous stance against those that seek to divide rather than unite. I am proud to be in a position to empower artists from many different backgrounds to help us get to “higher ground.”

Walter Kolm: “It’s an honor for me to receive an Ambassadors of Peace award this year.  I’ve always been a firm believer in the power of music to bring people together, which is why I support CCFP and their mission. The fact that so many incredible Latin artists I’ve worked with over the years, like Maluma, Carlos Vives and Wisin, have performed in Israel is a testament to this. Our artists are always embraced with enthusiasm and love in such a way that truly shows that music crosses all cultural and national boundaries to unite us.”

Troy Carter: “There is no better way to bring people of different backgrounds together than through the arts. This is why I share the vision of Creative Community for Peace and am proud to receive their Ambassador of Peace award.”

Ziggy Marley: “It is an honor to be one of CCFP’s 2019 Ambassadors of Peace. We all should use our voices, music, and art in the struggle for justice, love, and peace for all human beings of all races, religions, and ethnicities. I am thankful to be a part of this year’s ceremony. One Love”

More than two-hundred top entertainment industry leaders are expected to attend the event, which will feature special musical performances.  Sponsors include Sony/ATV, EA Music, BMI, Epic Records, Atlantic Records and Warner Records among many others. Variety, which recently included CCFP honoree Jacqueline Saturn on their “Women’s Impact Report,” is the event’s official media sponsor.

New Moon Global Call to Action
Sacred Reciprocity:
Learning to Live in Harmony with All of Life
A FREE Interactive Global Conversation
with Michael & Puma Fredy Quispe Singona
Friday, August 30th, 9-10:30am Pacific
There is so much that is affecting us, so much heavy energy, worry, stress, and fear that is affecting our physical bodies and sending us to the hospitals. We need to take care of our heart and mind in order to completely heal our physical bodies.

Puma Fredy Quispe Singona
I am very excited to announce that our dear friend Fredy “Puma” Quispe will be joining us for this month’s new moon call. Puma, who lives in Cusco Peru, was trained by his grandfather from the age of 6. He has been walking the path of a traditional Andean Medicine Man and is recognized as a holder of ancient Andean wisdom.
Puma and Michael will be exploring the concept and application of Ayni, the sacred art of reciprocity, to our lives and human evolution. August is the month for celebrating Mother Earth in Peru, although it seems that this is true of every month with the indigenous people. Please join us as we explore how to meet the challenges of separation, alienation and divisiveness that are growing in our world today.
Our separation from the natural world is not only killing us, we are taking the bulk of all the earth’s species with us in our quest for more of what we really don’t need. When we learn to think in terms of systems we recognize that everything is connected and plays a vital role in the balance of the energetic forces of the universe…

Fredy “Puma” Quispe is a prominent citizen within his local community and a member of the Elders Council in Chinchero, Peru as well as the co-founder of Cusi Huayna, a youth group focused on re-strengthening the community through the remembrance of traditional dance, story, and weaving. He is accredited to sharing the secrets of the Andes with hundreds of tourists each year as a guide on the Inca Trail while continuing to study with Quechua elders throughout the Sacred Valley.
Today Puma plays an active role in world affairs by sitting on several international and indigenous councils including the World Wisdom Council, whose honorary chair is Mikhail Gorbachyev. He was also featured in 4Real which began as a documentary television series that features young leaders who, under extreme circumstances, are affecting real change on some of the most pressing issues of our time, and has now expanded to include an online global community. Through this work, he is ensuring the contribution of indigenous wisdom toward strengthening the vision of global harmony and healing.

Reclaim the Court
Oct 6 @ 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm

One year ago, thousands of women, femmes, survivors, and allies descended on DC to protest now-Justice Brett Kavanaugh and his inadequate and intentionally incomplete confirmation process. On the anniversary of Kavanaugh’s illegitimate confirmation, Congress must reckon with us once more.

Join Women’s March, Demand Justice, Center for Popular Democracy and partners on October 6th in DC for a mobilization on the anniversary of Kavanaugh’s sham confirmation to make sure Congress knows that we are still watching and demand they investigate Kavanaugh. A thorough vetting of him and his record is more important now than ever.

We must know whether Kavanaugh lied to the Senate, whether he sexually assaulted the women who credibly accused him of doing so, and whether he is ultimately fit to be a justice on the Supreme Court.

Brett Kavanaugh will roll back rights that women have worked for generations to secure. We won’t wait around for that to happen, we’re fighting back now.

See you in DC.

MLK-Gandhi March for Non-Violence @ Cobo Hall
Oct 19 @ 11:00 am

Join us to march against violence in America!

We will meet in front of Cobo Hall (1 Washington Blvd. Detroit, MI 48226) at 11 AM on Saturday, October 19, 2019, and we will walk together towards the Spirit of Detroit Plaza to rally alongside politicians and leaders who want to make a change.

This march will be a symbol to reflect on the nonviolence movement conducted by Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. to protest for peace and freedom. Violence has been the curse of America, and the MLK-Gandhi March for Nonviolence intends to bring the lessons taught to us by Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. into the 21st century.

We are focused on the mission that Dr. King and Gandhi set out to do, and accomplished, changing the hearts and minds of the society. We fully intend for this march to be a springboard into future events including the opening of a non-violence museum.

At Science and Nonduality (SAND), preeminent scientists, philosophers, mystics and artists gather to explore and advance the new paradigm emerging in spirituality that is both grounded in cutting-edge science and consistent with the ancient wisdom of nonduality—the deep understanding of the interconnectedness of life.

To open the conference, Cynthia is excited to offer a teaching on Sacred Activism for the Great Turning; the Earth Treasure Vase Global Healing Meditation. Like acupuncture needles in the living body of the Earth, little holy vessels known as Earth Treasure Vases have been offered to Gaia to form a healing mandala of nodes and meridians imagined as a web of light to serve us as we awaken together into our own unique role in the great work of our time—to heal the web of life, restore balance and harmony, envision our world anew, and embody that vision with every fiber of our life force for the benefit of all.

Charles Eisenstein’s excellent essay, Every Act a Ceremony, refers to the ETV practice. Charles will also be a speaker at SAND.

For scientists, bonds and connections are essential to the working of the universe; for mystics, love is the ultimate principle. From the depths of physics to the delights of being human, relationships make life possible.

The mechanistic view of reality which sees the world as separate objects, separate individuals, communities and nations, has led to fragmentation in every aspect of life. We are now realizing that, from quarks to people, from gut bacteria to galaxies, it’s all about interconnectedness, cooperation, and symbiosis.

This year, SAND will be bringing together some of the brightest minds in science, along with spiritual teachers from various traditions and artists, in a quest to expand and deepen our understanding and experience of our relational nature through the two lenses of science and spirituality. We will explore and integrate our human knowledge and experience around the theme of relationships. We will inquire into the many scales of relationship we are part of, from microbes and bacteria to mushrooms and trees, to people and families, to galaxies and black holes.

At the end of the day, no matter how complex the field of study becomes, the innate intelligence and reflective nature of the universe shines through. Love is what breathes life into the equations; Love is the field in which the quarks and human beings relate.

We will meet you there.

Time of the Sixth Sun – the MOVIE @ Your device
Nov 6 – Nov 16 all-day
Relaunching 06 November 2019
Time of the Sixth Sun is a story filmed over 11 years in 16 countries about the awakening human and the memory that our shared experience be one of unity rather than one of separation.
Over eighty five wisdom keepers share their sacred transmissions on how to transition into a more heart-based culture in this move and 8-part documentary series – available for free – online for 10 days from 06 November 2019.
The movie stars Estas Tonne, a Russian speaking troubadour on his journey of enlightenment, challenged by the Trickster played by Peter Moore, guided by Spirit channeled through Geoffrey Hoppe and introduced by actress, Greta Scacchi.
A synergy of indigenous ceremonies and powerful interviews produce a multi-layered experience with a depth and texture that draws the audience into a rich emotional journey.
A sensory feast that promises to be as impressive to the ear as it is on the eye. A meditation for the soul.
People across the globe are seeking a truth that lies beyond political spin and cheap sound bytes. Many are answering the call to awaken.
As we move into the adulthood of our species, is it time to remember what it is to become a sovereign being once more. A new consciousness is emerging as we transition into this, a new sun cycle – the Time of the Sixth Sun.
And in addition to the move we’ve created 8 documentary episodes to take you on a deep dive into the wisdom of our speakers. Register to watch all this for FREE at:
and the original site – http://www.timeofthesixthsun.com/

THE WISDOM OF THE ELDERS

Time of the Sixth Sun is an inspirational and uplifting documentary film about the shift in global consciousness and the emerging movement to find a new way to walk more lightly on this Earth. Our ancestors understood our symbiotic relationship to nature and the elements, and foresaw the collapse of an unsustainable world. Filmed predominantly in North America, Mexico, Peru, S.Africa, India, Egypt, Israel and Australia, this film is a synergy of ancient wisdom from the indigenous Elders and insights from pioneers of new energy consciousness, who collaboratively hold the vision of a new earth experience.

The film is introduced by Greta Scacchi and narrated by ‘Tobias’, an angelic being who has lived many lifetimes on Earth, channeled by Geoffrey Hoppe.  Our crew flew to Colorado and whilst Geoffrey was in a trance state, we asked Tobias if he would tell our story. He called it ‘the biggest evolution of consciousness humanity has ever experienced’.

“You are witnessing the dissolving of old systems and the birth of new energy consciousness. It is time to re-member who you are and why you are here, at this time of the greatest change ever.” (Tobias)

The power of this film is carried in the transmission of both the narrator and the speakers, and is interwoven with ceremony and the visual journey of the film’s ‘everyman’, a modern day musical troubadour.

A montage of sound and visuals create a sonic tapestry, inviting the viewer into an intimate and authentic experience of a world in transition. A sensory feast that promises to be as impactful on the ear as it is on the eye, whilst an original soundtrack seamlessly weaves sacred songs, prayers and chants with the resonant strings of Estas Tonne, virtuoso guitarist and troubadour on his journey. A meditation for the soul.

Master Mingtong Gu

Master Mingtong Gu

Named Qigong Master of the Year by the 13th World Congress on Qigong and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Mingtong Gu possesses a profound ability to harness energy in order to accelerate personal and global healing, making him a sought-after healer, practitioner, and teacher.

As a child growing up in China during the Cultural Revolution, Master Gu endured hunger, poverty, and a long separation from his birth family. Despite these incredible hardships, he became the first from his village to attend college, earning a bachelor’s degree in mathematics followed by two master’s degrees, including an MFA from Ohio State University. As a graduate student in art, Master Gu discovered the treasures of his own culture through the spiritual iconography of Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Western mystic traditions while practicing yoga, Tantric Buddhism, and qigong.

In 1997, Master Gu returned to China for qiqong training under Dr. Pang Ming, a qigong grandmaster trained in Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, and the founder of the world’s largest qigong hospital. During his training, Master Gu observed thousands of cases of chronic and “incurable” diseases being healed at this “medicine-less” hospital, which has now treated over 200,000 patients with over 185 different illnesses, with a 95 percent effective improvement rate.

Witnessing these profound healing experiences inspired Master Gu’s dedication to the teaching and practice of qigong healing, which he now teaches to thousands of people in the United States, China, and Europe through his workshops, books, and education programs. He created the Pure Qi Online series—a collection of courses which translate the ancient teachings of Wisdom Healing Qigong™ for contemporary times—and is the founder of the Chi Center and the Center for Wisdom Healing Qigong, a beautiful 79-acre resort located 20 minutes south of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Through practice, Master Gu has recovered from his own chronic conditions of asthma, scoliosis, back pain, and kidney weakness. His teaching emphasizes activating the power of inner self-healing, facilitating the release of chronic illness while improving health and well-being. Master Gu lives and teaches with his wife Linling, also a gifted healer, and their two children.

Linling Xie

Linling studied Zhineng Qigong at the medicine-less Qigong hospital in China under the guidance of Dr. Pang Ming. She is a gifted Wisdom Healing Qigong Teacher and Healer, offering private sessions while Healing Intensive Retreats are in session at the Center in Santa Fe.

Email:  ecoshanti@brahmakumaris.com

World Interfaith Harmony Meet is being organized by Brahma Kumaris at its international Head Quarter Complex Gyan Sarovar, an academy for a better world.

This event is being celebrated during the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Gyan Sarovar. Many spiritual, religious and faith leaders will be participating in the meet. The aim and objectives of this event are to share common interests and to also come to common understanding regarding actions that could be taken to mitigate climate-related issues, inter-regional harmony, and value-based education systems. The list of the invited guests include:

HH Dalai Lama Ji,

Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev Ji,

Sri Ravi Shankar Ji,

Dadi Janki Ji, and many others.

Gyan Sarovar

The Academy for the Better World, known in Hindi as Gyan Sarovar, offers residential programs and courses on development and practical implementation of human, moral and spiritual values and principles.

The Brahma Kumaris started building the campus for the Academy for a Better World, an institution of higher learning established by the Brahma Kumaris along with its sister institution, the World Renewal Spiritual Trust, and Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation, in 1991. The aim was to provide a training facility for the institution’s outreach to all sections of society. Within a few years, 28 acres of land near the institution’s headquarters in Mount Abu was transformed into a modern village complex in a quiet, rural setting.

The campus includes Universal Harmony Hall, an auditorium that can seat 1,600 people and has facilities for simultaneous translation in 16 languages; the International Spiritual Art Gallery housing sculptures, murals, audio-visual and laser displays and other works of art from around the world; the International Center for Higher Learning comprising 13 seminar and training rooms; accommodation for up to 1,500 people; kitchen and dining facilities that can cater to 1,200 people at a time; three man-made lakes that irrigate the 15,000 trees planted to provide fruits and vegetables and a rural retreat atmosphere; and a solar water heater for cooking. The telephone exchange, computers and emergency lighting systems are powered by solar and wind energy, and a unique waste treatment plant is capable of treating 200,000 liters of washing, kitchen and bathroom waste water daily, of which nearly 80 percent is available for re-use.

In 1996, the Academy was presented to Habitat II, the second UN Conference on Human Settlements held in Istanbul, Turkey. It was recognised as part of the Best Practice Initiative for Human Settlements.

National Refugee Shabbat 5780 @ Your community
Mar 20 – Mar 21 all-day

Take Action on National Refugee Shabbat

National Refugee Shabbat 5780, which will take place on March 20-21, 2020, is a moment for congregations, organizations, and individuals around the country to dedicate a Shabbat experience to refugees and asylum seekers.

Register: Learn more about how your community or group can participate at hias.org/nrs – it’s not too late!

There are also many ways individuals can take action for refugees and asylum seekers in the week leading up to National Refugee Shabbat, as well as on the actual Shabbat itself (in accordance with individual Shabbat practice). Feel free to share the list below widely with family and friends.

12 WAYS TO TAKE ACTION THIS NATIONAL REFUGEE SHABBAT

1. Advocate – Call your Member of Congress to ask them to stand for the rights, safety and dignity of refugees and asylum seekers.

2. Get Involved in the Election – Research the candidates running in local elections in your area, and let them know that the rights of refugees and asylum seekers are among your top priority issues this year.

3. Update Your Facebook Photo Frame – Show your support for refugees by updating your Facebook profile picture with the HIAS #JewsforRefugees frame. Click here for directions.

4. Join the “Jews for Refugees” Facebook Group – Joining this group is a great way to connect with thousands of other committed individuals across the country, access up-to-the-minute information about the Jewish response to the refugee crisis, and share the actions that you are taking. Click here to join.

5. Donate Your Miles to Asylum Seekers – HIAS has partnered with Miles4Migrants (M4M), a nonprofit charity dedicated to using donated frequent flyer miles and money for the relocation of refugees and those seeking asylum – including families recently separated at the U.S.-Mexico border. HIAS and Miles4Migrants (M4M) will work to identify refugees and asylum seekers who need assistance purchasing airfare to reunite with their families. Donate your frequent flyer miles here the week of National Refugee Shabbat.

6. Buy Refugee-Produced Goods – Support refugees and asylum seekers around the world and in your local community by buying refugee-produced goods and/or researching refugee-owned restaurants in your community and having a meal there. Check out this website to purchase goods made by a collective of African asylum-seeking women living in Tel Aviv, Israel.

7. Give Life to Refugees and Asylum Seekers – In the week leading up to National Refugee Shabbat, set up a Facebook fundraiser to benefit HIAS’ work.

8. Scholarships for Displaced Students – Research whether your local universities and colleges offer scholarships to refugees and asylum seekers. If not, reach out and ask them to consider starting such a program. Check out Columbia University’s program for an example.

9. Have A Difficult Conversation – Using the HIAS Conversational Guide for How to Talk About Refugees with Family and Friends, commit to having at least one conversation with someone in your life who has expressed concern about welcoming refugees to the United States or even someone who has made disparaging remarks about refugees or asylum seekers.

10. Light Shabbat Candles with Intention – As you welcome Shabbat on March 20, use this reading before lighting Shabbat candles to set an intention to stand with refugees and asylum seekers around the globe.

11. Host A Gathering In Your Home – Invite a small group of friends over to your home for Shabbat dinner or lunch or a havdallah (the ceremony for closing Shabbat) wine and cheese gathering. At the gathering, consider using the HIAS National Refugee Shabbat 5780-2020 Programming Content Resource. Use the text study on page 6 of this guide as a jumping off point for conversation, take a look at and discuss the refugee art on page 13 of this guide, or screen the movie suggested on page 14 and 15 of this guide.

12. Start A Book Club – Start a book club – for adults or young people – to read books by and about refugees and asylum seekers. Use this list as a jumping off point for suggestions or search google for even more ideas.
